TriviaThe Attack on Titan anime and the manga it was based on have proved to be incredibly popular. Life-size Titan attractions do battle at the Universal Studios' theme park in Japan. There have even been comic book crossovers with popular Marvel superheroes, such as Spiderman and the Avengers.

The strangest spin-off in the Attack on Titan franchise is Attack on Titan: Junior High. This is a comedy manga that was later adapted into an anime which reimagines the characters as school-age children and sets the series in a junior high school. In this version of the show, the Titans are the school bullies and the human characters are out to stop them from stealing their lunches and stuff. It’s kind of surreal.
Hajime Isayama, the series’ creator, enjoys playing practical jokes on fans. He's created previews of future volumes that tease ridiculous new plot lines, such as a cooking battle or the revelation that the entire series was just a dream someone had. He's also refused to make the gender of certain characters clear, and has supported every popular potential romantic pairing for a character without committing to one.
