George Lucas's original plan was to release the original trilogy along with both the prequel and sequel trilogies. In the end, he ultimately decided on only releasing the original trilogy to allow for advances in computer-generated imagery. The main story in this trilogy concerns the Skywalker family and their battle with both the light and dark side of the Force. The main character group consists of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Han Solo, Chewbacca, R2-D2 and C3PO.

Fun Facts

Originally the name for the sixth film was going to be Revenge of the Jedi, with Luke turning to the dark side in the end. Princess Leia was almost played by Laverne & Shirley co-star Cindy Williams instead of Carrie Fisher, while Yoda was designed as a monkey named Buffy in the first script. Jabba the Hutt had fur in the first design instead of being a slimy slug. The line "I have a bad feeling about this" is said in every Star Wars movie.

When looking for ideas on how to make the various sounds throughout the movies, many different items were used. An old tv that hummed caused the lightsaber noise, a braying donkey, played at varying speeds, became the Tusken Raiders,  a S.C.U.B.A regulator produced the sound of Dart Vader's iconic breathing, an elephant trumpeting mixed with cars driving on wet pavement made the Tie Fighter noise, and several animal roars were combined to mimic Chewbacca's speaking voice.
